  • Primary Duties and Responsibilities

    Performs planning, design, estimating, construction oversight for park and open space facilities under the direct supervision of either a Project manager, Landscape Architect, Landscape Supervisor, or Division Manager

    • Assists staff in the preparation of drawings, base maps and final drawings.
    • Conducts site surveys and inventories; researches, and evaluates alternative design concepts, product quality materials equipment, and historical events for master plans, projects, and reports
    • designs and prepares graphics for presentations, construction documents including layout, grading, irrigation, planting, detailing, cost estimates, specifications and various contract forms for park related facilities
    • attends pre-bid and pre-construction meetings with contractors
    • administers contracts, change orders, pay requests, and other associated documents during the course of construction
    • reviews current drafting practices and makes recommendations for changes
    • Coordinates work with consultants, department construction coordinator, other City departments, outside agencies and performs other duties as assigned.
    Minimum Qualifications


    • Bachelor's Degree in landscape architecture (or related field)
    • At least two years in progressively responsible experience in landscape design and/or planning and experience in the use of specialized design software applications. 
    An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.

    • Knowledge of the principles and practices of landscape architecture and design; technical design and construction techniques and personal computers. 
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and citizens; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; establish and fulfill goals and objectives; and make graphic presentations.
    • Strong interpersonal and analytic skills.  Skill in computer operation using Auto Cad and graphic programs, word processing, spreadsheet software applications.
    Licenses, Certificates or equipment required:
    • Valid Driver's License. 
    • This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use person equipment (vehicle, cell phone) during the course of employment.
    Working Conditions

    Physical Demands: Sedentary physical work requiring ability to lift a maximum of 10 pounds; occasional walking and standing; hand/eye coordination for operation of computer for design of projects; vision to read and interpret reports and other written documents; speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizens.
    Work Environment: Works primarily in a clean, comfortable environment; occasional outdoor work to review projects.
    Equipment Used: Personal computer, printers, plotters, and basic field survey equipment.
